PROJECT BABEL

Context

Individual undergrad project,

2019/09 - 2019/10

Approach

Desktop Research, Participatory Research, Service Sesign, Video Editing

Overview

Project Babel encourages people all over the world to design space food recipes for astronauts. It provides the public with novelty, challenges the monotony and isolation in long-term space missions, and eases the food technicians’ workload to come up with new menus. It explores how food can satisfy the high levels of needs and generate a sense of global citizenship.

Among the routines above,

meals have the most potential to fit those needs.

What can be the key to boost higher-level of well-being?

Scientists are already getting down to solve the basic needs. Pre-testing, monitors, compression cuffs, medicines and compulsory exercises are keys to better physical conditions. So I mainly focus on the high-level of needs, here is a model of the hierarchy of needs in space.

Concept Development

The concept is all about connection. A connection that brings the familiar to astronauts, the unknown to the public, and the unexpected to the staff in the food lab.
